As of Friday 7 July, apparently my account has been suspended instance-wide by moderators at @fosstodon — so all of my followers there from the past 6 years have been disconnected, and no one on that instance can follow me any more.
No reason or advance notice was provided, and no reports were sent.
Update 2: Apparently I was suspended in November 2022 for posting a video of goats yelling like humans.
@fosstodon @downey As a use case for others…being disconnected suddenly…does that mean you cannot export/import your follow list, or any of the other suggested steps to migrate to another server? If so, does that mean we should be making backups, in case an instance goes away/is shot down, or gets snarky? I’d hate to lose all the effort I’ve put in to curate my follows.
@obviousdwest I recommend running this regularly:
@downey@floss.social @obviousdwest@mastodon.social
#calckey has export and import functionality - it's quite granular, which can be useful if say - you only want to export follows or blocks, though coversely does require you to go though several steps export the whole of a user account.
@Theriac @downey @obviousdwest yes but can you use it when your account gets suspended?
@stooovie@mas.to @downey@floss.social @obviousdwest@mastodon.social
I've never been in a position to find out, however as part of a sequential backup you have granularity about what you back up.
@stooovie@mas.to @downey@floss.social @obviousdwest@mastodon.social
though talking of accessing your account from the outside you might want to look into RSS - which will allow you to download your posts, and possibly attachments
