What is the most recent #Linux app you've installed?
No cherry-picking your favourites here - honest answers only!
Let me know below
@omgubuntu
Whalebird for mastodon, of course.
@vforberger @omgubuntu Never heard of this before, but it looks nice. I might install that myself.
@gmate8 The colour picking tool? If so, nice choice - I use that a fair bit myself.
If not, I'd love to know what it is!
@omgubuntu where I just saw that... :D
@omgubuntu very similar to task manager
@omgubuntu it looks like Windows 11's equivalent?
@omgubuntu@floss.social distrobox, btw
@omgubuntu
redact (https://redact.dev/) - was cleaning up my old reddit & twitter timelines. No sense leaving that stuff behind for them.
Mission Center looks very pretty, certainly prettier than top/htop/glances/s-tui - maybe a little too modelled on the Win equivalent but will take it for a spin.
@omgubuntu huh, looks neat, and awfully familiar
@omgubuntu what if i use other distro ?
@hacknorris There are other distros?!
Take part anyway - I only mentioned ubuntu to be on brand
Edit: removed mentioning Ubuntu.
@omgubuntu @hacknorris in that case libXi-devel libXinerama-devel libXxf86vm-devel. Which tells you the distro as well :)
@omgubuntu most recent? ughh....
it was a library update, but one which isnt update is minetest although i didnt installed but i just use appimage :)
@omgubuntu if we're including servers, Tailscale so I could send an RPM to a server.
@omgubuntu Google Chrome (re-install), otherwise by newness it's prime note
@omgubuntu cpupower - monitor and change cpu power settings etc from the command line. Just because I saw it on a Chris Titus video and had never used it before
@mechatour Hadn't heard of that. I'll have to have a look in to it.
@omgubuntu I just installed bottom.
@omgubuntu NextPVR server. And that was an utter PITA because it's bloody dotnet and the installer didn't work and needed help, and i still had to make a systemd timer to restart it every morning or it stops being able to make recordings… (but all because tvheadend stopped working entirely on an update)
@StrangeNoises Not ideal at all. Is it all setup now though?
@omgubuntu Do CLI Apps count as well? For me it was ‚taskwarrior‘. I am using it as checklist/note-taking app while playing Civ6 or other games.
@jukey They absolutely do! I've heard good things about task warrior over the years.
@omgubuntu I think it was actually Chatterino...
@omgubuntu
It was either Falkon or GNOME Boxes
I can't remember which
@omgubuntu sadly a discord update
@omgubuntu@floss.social distrobox, btw
@omgubuntu Thunderbird 115, obviously
@josemas DING! Correct answer
@omgubuntu
Helix editor.
https://helix-editor.com/
But I'm gonna stay with VS Code, because I want some free time, too
@omgubuntu Parabolic (on Mint) but it doesn't download Twitter videos anymore :(
@GoatsLive Oh shoot, that's annoying to hear.
@omgubuntu gnome workbench, together with some other time that I hope will help to build a good libadwaita app :)
@omgubuntu Pulseaudio
I used to use pipewire before
@omgubuntu screen. I installed it yesterday to access a serial console.
@omgubuntu Thunar, file manager, because Nautilus got slow recently
@kommadieb Thunder is /blazing/ fast. I do enjoy using it when on Xfce-based distros.
@omgubuntu the sync client for nextcloud as rpm replacing the flatpak version.
@omgubuntu Well, technically VS Code (the non-flatpak version) on a laptop I just put OpenSuse Tumbleweed on, but I've used that for years too. So if we are going for sheerly "new" apps, then it's Whalebird for Mastodon.
@southernwolf Seen quite a few people mention Whalebird of late. I'm gonna have to check it out.
@omgubuntu It's pretty good! Depending on what front-end your Mastodon instance uses, it may be better or worse from a browsing experience (it's better than completely stock Mastodon from a UI perspective I'd say). But it does allow for desktop notifications, which is quite handy to have!
@omgubuntu
I just installed Empathy with purple-teams on Ubuntu
@ChrisWere
@omgubuntu JamesDSP (audio effects processor for #Pipewire) from #Flathub.
Graphic equaliser and bass boost working great for fixing sound of YT and #Odysee videos.
@omgubuntu Boring one, GNOME Maps. I needed to figure out if geolocation worked on my machine (it doesn't - at least not really, which explains why Firefox always thinks I'm at the wrong end of the country).
@omgubuntu #DoubleCommander comes out with #AppImage snapshots about twice a week. Installed 1.1.0~10806 a few hours ago.
@pop_justy …and now I know what Gemini is.
@pop_justy@social.linux.pizza @omgubuntu@floss.social Oho, this is a wonderful looking gemini client!
