Sometimes an @outreachy applicant will make a contribution in a Merge Request that I cannot take, but I want to use it somewhere else in a different context.
One of the things I love about #git is that it makes it easy for me to make sure credit is appropriately assigned. I am creating patch files, rebasing and squashing commits, but I can always preserve the original author's name and git platform account in the commit log.
It is subtle, but I think it is important.
@jwf That's an article, right there.
@vmbrasseur I'm curious in which way you see it. An article on how to do this kind of thing with git, or an article on the merits/benefits of preserving credit for contributions made by an open source beginner?
And you can't say both, you have to pick one :) (or suggest a completely different idea)
@jwf But! But! I _want_ to say “both”!
But if I have to choose, the how to do it article.
@vmbrasseur I had a hunch you would also want both
I appreciate the priority though, I will mark this away in my future drafts.
