#newpipe has been removed from #google search recently. The homepage https://newpipe.net is not listed in Google search results anymore. This is due to a #DMCA. For now, only our landing page is affected.

Update: the DMCA complaint to Google has been rescinded (https://lumendatabase.org/notices/34149383)
The landing page is back on Google search.
@tobigr Erm.. I hate to break the news for you, but that's apparently not true?
@boilingsteam Only the landing page newpipe.net was removed, not the sub pages. It looks more like a move to scare us.
@tobigr why do you care then? Newpipe still comes first in the search results and that's exactly the software that people will be looking for.
@boilingsteam I think the main question is whether unjustified und non fact based DMCAs can be used to suppress certain search results. If those companies succed with one, they might try to issue more removal requests. Those are harder to fight if the initial take down request was not fought.
@tobigr Is this was a DMCA request, why isn't the whole site removed from the search results instead of just the landing page?
@boilingsteam Because only https://newpipe.net was requested.
The DMCA especially says one URL: https://lumendatabase.org/notices/34149383
@tobigr that's weird. So if you want to remove a whole site, you have to list 600 URLs if the site has tons of pages?
@boilingsteam I am not a lawyer and did not issue any DMCAs to Google search
I think it makes sense though, because a website can cover multiple topics and if it is bigger, you might not want / legally can remove all pages.
It's just clear by the sheer amount of websites listed in the DMCA that this is not an attack targeting NewPipe. IMO, it feels more like a test to see who is fighting back and who can be scarred by a DMCA.
@tobigr @boilingsteam Why is wikipedia and microsoft and google play on that list?
@tobigr I suggest either contacting the EU's GDPR and freedom rights responsibles or @noybeu to help in legal action
NOTE: I recommend to collect all the cases where Google did act unethically or morally wrong when it comes to FOSS, GDPR and liberty rights, to have radical arguments against them, and to put high pressure on them.
We must put an end to this bullshit.
I can confirm google for newpipe shows f-droid first, and github second.
Searching on duckduckgo returns newpipe.net first.
Do you think making newpipe work as a peertube client, advertising the pivot to peertube on your home page, and just kind of not obviously mention that it still can read from youtube would trick google any?
