Do you know what it takes to turn a web engine into a browser?

Learn how we’re becoming browser-ready, including support for multiple webviews and multiple windows, through the lens of Verso, a new experimental browser based on Servo!

@servo
I wonder why text in the address bar is that way, I observe this in a lot of software in early stages of development: text not being properly vertically centered in a box having only one line, this has to be something common 🤔

No-o-o!!! 😱

Sorry, I'm allergic to WebPee 😅
In any case, this wasn't a critique on my end, not a request for a fix — I'm just genuinely curious why it's so common.

@m0xee @servo Because that GIF is 5.76 MB and WebP is only 1.3 MB.

@niutech
Yeah, but none of the software I use is built with WebPee support, I can still download and convert it, but most of the time I don't bother 🤷
Also, why GIF? If it's one of those point and click animated images, why not make it a regular video without the audio track? Whatever can open WebPee, can open a video too — I thought it's quite common these days, whatever people send to each other as GIFs are in most cases short videos.
@servo

@niutech
I admit that WebPee is clearly superior to GIF in this particular case, but…
It's ~4.5 times vs over 52 times smaller 😄
Sure, that H264-encoded MP4 is lossy — grossly so, but as you can see, so is that WebPee — it's basically a VP8 video in a trenchcoat.

@niutech @servo Would have been my primary question after the announcement. 😅

"Can we get vertical tabs from the get go, or is Servo planning on wasting people's time for 15 years like Mozilla?"

@servo Does Servo support Recent Web Standards like MathML 2,SVG 2 and Full HTML5

@servo hi good luck on this. are u supporting svg? tor browser don't support svg due to security "issues" but i did a search they were all patched years ago. dunno if its worth putting out a fork of tor browser with svg suport....could be a popular side thing and help bring exposure to ur team?

there are other interestnig browser inconsistencies but i dont want to dump them all on you....eg torproject folk say don't add addons because they'll add a fingerprint but their sister project #tailsOS adds #ublockorigin as youll see here (tbh uBO policies need to be baked into all browsers today).

theres more i could share but again i dont want to just dump it all out if ur not interested.... but yeah the svg one is a major long running ux issue.

blog.torproject.orgNew Release: Tails 6.7 | Tor ProjectTails 6.7 is out.

@frogzone SVG image support is something we are investigating.

@servo nice, pls keep me updated on fedi as the page is cloudflare, so i won't be able to access.

@servo dear @torproject i notice that the faq (legacy web) on your site neglects to mention that your sibling project, tail-os, does in fact use #ublockorigin. Please adopt ublockorigin in mainline tor browser to limit possible #fingerprinting issues.

in safest mode please also block youtube.com (youtube doesn't work in safest mode), typekit and fonts.google.com (fonts are not downloaded in safes tmode).

thanks for reading #torproject. pls tell me if you can see this msg. or i will try again later.

@servo Love the accessible anchor links on headings. ❤️

Just a heads up: readme.md under the multi-view headline does not link to your readme, but rather to the external URL readme.md. Doesn't appear to be a malign site, but probably not intended anyway. @servo
