Servo

Are you into Rust, Python, JavaScript, or CSS? Why not get paid to work on a web browser engine?

Servo is participating in Outreachy, a three-month paid (7000 USD) remote internship program that runs twice a year.

Apply before 21 August at 16:00 UTC → outreachy.org/apply/eligibilit

@servo very interesting offer but I have some weird situation in which I cannot say for sure if I'm eligible

these are quite restrictive application conditions

@stevewfolds WTF it's like 2300 per month. What do you mean "Below poverty line"

EDIT: Re read this. I need to clarify. 2500 is what an engineer can get per month here. So 2300 for three month seems like a really good deal.
Especially when I can only hope for a job that's less than 1800/month currently (because of shitty HR)
yeah I see the 2300 don't include insurance nor retirement, but my current job pays a quarter of that (it includes insurance when on the job and retirement but it's required by law almost everywhere in EU)

@eragon @servo
$7,000 x 4 = $28k year, doesn’t seem to go far anymore.

@stevewfolds @servo It could be an unpaid internship, but it's not.

@badri @servo Cost of living in Silicone Valley bs India … is 100x(?) 😱

@stevewfolds @servo okay so I just looked up poverty lines and it's complicated, but the starting daily rate for a programmer here is about ₹2000 or $24 (that comes to ~$500 a month, assuming 5 days a week; it's often more like 6 days a week so that would be $576 per month) 💰

Of course, senior developers get paid a lot more 💸
@stevewfolds @servo I think unskilled labour in my state is about half that amount (but I could be wrong). It varies by region and also (unfortunately) by gender

@servo@floss.social Is this solely for LGBTQ+ or other minority groups? I'd like to give a shot, but I don't think I'll ever be considered if Outreachy only accepts minority groups.
