Elon Musk is launching the presidential campaign of Ron DeSantis, the man working to make The Handmaid’s Tale a reality in the US.
At least the Germans had guns to their heads if they opposed the Nazis. What exactly is your excuse for continuing to support this man and his social network?
@aral what is it with this continued fallacy some people perpetuate that using a network is actively supporting it's owners? As though shopping at specific stores or buying certain products means we support the political views of those millionaires, when in fact most people just want to live their lives in peace.
@mikebabcock @aral In a society based on pure commercialism and where the owners only understand the bottom line and where politicians pander to business and not people - one of the few ways you have to affect change is to stop buying their product. Hit the bottom line and they will change.
@mikebabcock @aral If you go the the grocery store that has a huge banner outside saying “Fascists are Welcome Here!” And gives discounts and line cutting privileges to the loudest and richest folks. And it was the only store in yours region. Then your analogy makes sense.
@mikebabcock @aral lo personal es político
@mikebabcock @aral If nobody goes there to read, the bias of the algorithm has no consequences. If nobody goes there to write, nobody goes there to read. Of course using Twitter is supporting it.
If an individual makes tradeoffs in light of their goals and decides to stay on Twitter, that's one thing, and that's valid, but to say that it doesn't amount to support is just misguided.
@mikebabcock @aral It’s not a fallacy. Twitter is alive because of users posting content there themselves, or reading content posted by others. Staying on Twitter is a choice and doing so supports Elon Musk in his agenda.
Buying food and clothes is much less a choice, because without it, you die. I doubt anyone will die without Twitter. “Just live their lives in peace” is an extremely privileged stance to be able to take. Just because Musk isn’t directly attacking you doesn’t make it okay to support him.
Staying on Twitter now is an active and explicit “I support Elon Musk” statement.
