as a minor surprise to end the year, there is an upcoming 32-bit powerpc architecture support, the repos of which are currently in the process of being built (a local prototype can already boot on bare metal as well as in a virtual machine)
of course, it wil be a tier-3 architecture (like big-endian ppc64)
@chimera_linux that's exciting, I love seeing new Linux distros for PPC
@alicela1n @chimera_linux bootstrapping this and getting it to run was a whole lot of fun since quite literally nobody has ever done it before
@q66 @alicela1n @chimera_linux thanks for doing this work! was considering trying to install gentoo musl+llvm on my powerbook g4 but you beat me to the punch.
@vimproved @alicela1n @chimera_linux i tried this before (~2 years ago) but did not get any farther than running into the toolchain bug
@chimera_linux finally! On my poor 7447A nothing really worked besides Void PPC which afaik @q66 maintained before went on doing Chimera?
Well except Arch PPC but that one has broken packages all the time.
@erindesu @chimera_linux well there is no guarantee this will run either given what i had to go through to get it going
@q66 @chimera_linux well... Considering how fine Void PPC was...
@erindesu @chimera_linux well void ppc was an established toolchain previously tried in a bunch of places
if you read my progress thread of the last few days you can see that what i'm doing now never worked before (i.e. either i'm the first to try it, or i'm the first to somewhat succeed)
@erindesu @chimera_linux @q66 what about Adelie Linux?
@chimera_linux
@ActionRetro exciting development happening!
