They are fixing 6 rapidly its awesome to see. By the time kubuntu 24.04 is out it should be pretty stable.

@blackfire @thisweekinkde kubuntu 24.04 won't include plasma 6 but a not so well maintained plasma 5 session unfortunately

Well that is terrible news. Any reason for it? Will there be a backports with 6?

@blackfire @carlschwan Ubuntu 24.04 is a Long Term Stable release.

The point of a LTS is all the versions are fixed, so it would end up locked to 6.0.4 and just backport security fixes.

So an LTS distribution is going to balance the known entity of 5.27 (an LTS release) vs the risk a new major release is going to have unknown defects that will upset users.

I would expect Ubuntu 24.10 (non LTS) to pull in KDE 6.

Yup that is very bad, as Plasma 6 is already so good. Testing it on Fedora 40, it just works.

The reason is 24.04 is LTS, and they want to keep things more stable, even if that means more bugs. 24.10 should come with 6.1 in the fall.

Personally, I found #Plasma6 unusable on my machine as an upgrade (huge issue was that window management was totally screwed up)

I installed Kubuntu 23.04 and now things are smooth sailing.
