I met with @pabloyoyoista today. We talked, amongst other, about the directions of Papers. As part of my project, for example, I'm tackling gestures. It'll be a clean-up as much as will enable touchscreen users, who currently cannot select text, nor add annotations.
Yes, the pizza at the end is obligatory. (Would've been a boring picture otherwise, right?) And yes, they were paid for from a running device.

@camelCaseNick @pabloyoyoista While you're at it, come up with a touchscreen that works.

No, really. All of us with really dry fingers -- and there'll be more and more of us as we age with time -- have to flap around at the screen repeatedly, never knowing which touch will finally "take." Annoying doesn't begin to describe it.

If that got solved somehow on pmOS I'd be using my old pinephone again in a millisecond.

@quixote @pabloyoyoista If your issue is specific to Papers (or Evince), I hope to have good news for you: Indeed there were issues with what gesture wins, and I am working on improving it.
If your issue is system-wide: I only work on Papers, so that it is on par with the rest. Using modern API, so that it *could* benefit from system-wide improvements, but I'm not touching that.
And if you want different hardware, I'm *not* the person to take complaints. I don't even have a PinePhone.

@camelCaseNick @pabloyoyoista Sorry. I should know by now that tone doesn't survive the writing process unless you're good at it. I meant that in a fairly flippant way. It's not your fault that the whole universe has run away with touch screens (and a whole mass of other UI issues). In my world, UIs wouldn't be replaced unless it was with something _better_. So I'm mostly joking about "Bah! Humbug!"

Not joking though that I'm glad to hear about Evince! I'll keep an eye on that.

@quixote @camelCaseNick this second message is much nicer than your previous one. Thanks a lot for the clarification :)

@camelCaseNick @pabloyoyoista Wait, you _paid_ from a device running pmOS? What do you mean? No banking app that allows that runs on pmOS yet (and I doubt they ever will, only with some Android compatibility later), so how did you do this? 🤔

@bart @pabloyoyoista Their card reader did not work that day. And we both didn't have enough cash. But PayPal worked.
Sure, you can say "Well, pmOS didn't do anything special to support that" … but in the end, without the phone, we would have had trouble paying for it. It felt like a success.

@camelCaseNick @pabloyoyoista Oh PayPal, that makes sense. Interesting, I never heard of paying for a restaurant with it lol

@bart @camelCaseNick @pabloyoyoista
I've been using my pmOS device for some time now for wire transfers from my banking website. Sometimes a little slow but it works.
