Thank you my friend @janriemer, you are the first who boosted all 3 parts of my Laptop Brands with GNU/Linux Preinstalled. Let us all support Free Software mass production.
Hello my friend @jbzfn@mastodon.social, thank you for boosting my Laptop Brands with GNU/Linux Preinstalled part 3. It helps!
Hi @clacke my friend, thank you for boosting my 'Laptops with GNU/Linux Preinstalled' post.
This free operating system, GNU/Linux, deserves mass production i.e. branded, bundled laptops and I'd love to say that your boost helps so much.
Hello all friends who boosted my post 'Preinstalled GNU/Linux Laptops', thank you very much!
This free operating system, GNU/Linux, deserves mass production i.e. preinstalled in branded laptops and I'd love you to know your boosts are very helpful. Greetings to you all.
@rmapl @FestplattenSchnitzel @Rv2mars @don_atoms @MrRoubos @meneer @rchrd @jpaul @haimoptysis @lfo @dhuyvetter
@lebout2canap thank you very much. This vendor is new to me. No wonder I never saw it, it is in French.
@ademalsasa From my personal experience, they have excellent customer and after-sales services.
@lebout2canap wow, thank you. Please share more about them and also more France based GNU/Linux computers, if you don't mind.
@ademalsasa I also know pcw.fr, but I haven't had a good experience with them. Among other problems, I even had to remind them to send me my order, they had forgotten about me! The laptop case was very flimsy and it started breaking after a few months.
I had the opportunity to talk about it with a member of Ekimia: they also sold this model, but they very quickly stopped when they understood the problem.
@ademalsasa i think you’re missing https://www.pine64.org, which comes with manjaro i think
There is also
Pine64 Pinebook https://pine64.com/product-category/pinebook-pro/
MNT Research Reform https://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-reform
... and it's Slimbook, not Slimebook, although the latter is also interesting. Missed wacky trademark opportunity there.
@ademalsasa framework as well I think
No, thank YOU for sharing such valuable list of brands who support Free Software!
Even if one doesn't use Linux, one should still buy from vendors who support Linux (like Lenovo or Dell, which you've listed). Otherwise, we will own our hardware less and less, just like mainstream mobile phones today.
@janriemer thank you my friend! You kind words make my heart feels warm.
@ademalsasa @janriemer Which of these come without a "non-Windows user tax"? You know, where a laptop without Windows is more expensive than one with Windows, but otherwise identical?
@ademalsasa I‘m really wishing that the handful of hardware vendors (Clevo and the like) that these companies buy their laptops from would modernize them.
It’s 2023. I don’t want or need three USB-A ports, 720p webcams, fragile barrel connector power jacks and 250nit 1080p displays on my 14” laptop. All of that is outdated tech. A 12th-gen Intel CPU doesn’t make up for it.
No, I don’t want a 16” laptop. Yes, I’m aware of #Framework, but I’d like more options, please!
@RockyC hello, thank you very much for caring and sharing about this with me!
However, if you are interested to Framework laptop, I believe you will also be interested to OLIMEX DIY Laptop.
I found this just a few seconds ago while writing the 3rd post above. It is far more cheaper, my friend, and they claimed all hardware parts are designed using Free Software.
@ademalsasa Unfortunately, those seem to be hobbyist machines with pretty low specs, but it’s still nice to see.
@RockyC hi, thanks for sharing your thought.
@ademalsasa Spreading the word is important. Thanks for putting together these lists!
@RockyC thanks, your warm words are so kind!
@ademalsasa Thanks. Would also be a useful idea to list vendors based on the region they're located in.
For many people, shipping and customs fees make the PCs too unaffordable.
@islamicaudiobooks I could not include that because such information is more suitable outside of Mastodon, Brother.
However, if you want complete information, you can refer to my references:
1) https://linuxpreloaded.com
2) https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuPre-installed
3) https://www.debian.org/distrib/pre-installed
4) https://linuxstans.com/linux-laptop
Boost is very appreciated.
@ademalsasa Thanks. I see the first link has listed by region. We need more in the Asia-Pacific :)
@islamicaudiobooks honestly, I believe it is the vice versa: we need to make one in the Asia Pasific.
People who are doing this that I know:
- @abhas (India)
- Techyuga (India)
- @PINE64 (Hong Kong)
The numbers for Asia Pasific are very limited compared to EU and US.
It is hard to make one, I know, but as for now I am supporting these existing ones.
@meneer hello, thank you very much for this valuable addition!
LWL and NovaCustom were already mentioned in my list. However, SKIKK is new to me. Apparently, they do offer Ubuntu preinstalled as operating system! I would never find it as I only search with English not Dutch.
Please share with me more vendors if you don't mind, I love that.
@ademalsasa this is as far as I got, looking for my own machinery. I'm running a @tuxedocomputers Pulse14 laptop, equiped with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
@meneer thank you for mentioning it. Could I read your written review about this laptop?
I'm collecting and organizing various reviews from various authors about GNU/Linux preinstalled laptops.
My first publication is this one https://www.ubuntubuzz.com/2023/02/collection-of-system76-laptop-reviews-2009-2014.html and I planned to write ones for Tuxedo, too.
@ademalsasa @tuxedocomputers I will have to write it first. But I will and mention it to you if I have...
@meneer I'm very happy to hear that! Looking forward to your review, Andre. Greetings from Indonesia.
@ademalsasa @tuxedocomputers I will post it on my blog that you may have found in my bio
@meneer awesome, it seems that you also like Yunohost.
@ademalsasa yes I do, it's my ubuntu-experience in hosting...
@meneer thank you for sharing!
@ademalsasa Not preinstalled, but available without windows: Framework laptop
@doener yes, I know about them. Thanks!
@ademalsasa Dell doesn't provide a single Linux option in its India site.
Thank you for the list
Could I add
Starlabs https://starlabs.systems/
Entroware https://www.entroware.com/store/
@ademalsasa Apologies. I hadn't noticed you already had Star Labs.
@ademalsasa Frame.work?
@ademalsasa Every Chromebook ever.
@ademalsasa You forgot about pine64 pinebook pro (amazing laptop)
@ademalsasa
I have used tuxedo computers for years with much joy
@ademalsasa System 76 keyboards are also great, worth the investment
@ademalsasa
Is there really a "Slimebook", or did the spell check interfere?
disappointingly, it seems to be a slimbook
@ademalsasa you've misspelled Slimbook as Slimebook. Not exactly the right name there...
@ademalsasa I'd love to see this broken down into region availability. Most of this list isn't even available in say, Australia.
@ademalsasa My Asus VivoBook came with Ubuntu preinstalled.
@ademalsasa I like my Think Penguin laptop. Doesn't HP sell one called the Dev 1?
No pine book?
@ademalsasa I've just gotten a @frameworkcomputer laptop, which comes in kit form without a proprietary OS. GNU/Linux (in my case Kubuntu) installed very quickly and smoothly, from a simple USB stick, and everything worked (including WiFi, which in my experience is not always smooth) after a single reboot.
It's easily my favorite laptop ever; light, powerful, attractive, great keyboard and touchpad, and (bonus) built for hardware repair and upgrade.
@ademalsasa
A tablet is needed
