That weird feeling when your phone tells you that the entire Alpha Centauri follows you. :-) @vms20591

History bit: people stayed in touch with their friends long before FB, before the Internet, before phones... You don't need FB, you don't need Mastodon, you don't need anything.

The only thing you actually *need* to stay in touch with your friends & family is the will to do so. Where's the will, there's a way.

I think I'm getting ready to start paying for email.

So floss.social crossed 5,000 statuses this week, hooray! Please tell you friends and colleagues that care about & and encourage them to join us. Not in any hurry to scale, but it's fun to have a community of like-minded folks.

🎉

After some 18 months in a company that used Slack and phone calls for 99% of their communication, I'm now in one that uses a combination of email, irc and video calls. What a difference!

„Otwartoźródłowy”. Naprawdę? NAPRAWDĘ?

Nieeee... Proszę, nie używajcie tego słowa.

I woke up this morning from this dream: I was in the city with my son, visiting a professor. When it was time to go back 'cause it was getting really late, I found that the train station is full of soldiers, trains are not running, most probably a war had just broken, and I'm stuck with a 6-yo some 30 km from home at night.

I realized how unprepared I am for such a scenario. My EDC pack wouldn't really help me much. I think I need to go back to square 1 and rethink it.

Getting my programming fix: script to generate vocabulary.

Reclaiming RSS

“Before Twitter, before algorithmic timelines filtered our reality for us, before surveillance capitalism, there was RSS: Really Simple Syndication … As we move away from the centralised web to the peer web, it’s time to rediscover, re-embrace, and reclaim RSS.”

I wanted to learn Racket this year (already started, in fact), but it seems I would need to work with some Go code sooner rather than later. I don't think I have the bandwidth to learn two languages at the same time. At least not to the extent I consider "knowing a language".

Off to Kraków to have a beer with colleagues from the new workplace.

I'm trying to wrap my head around ActivityPub. Is there a good plain English explanation?

This weekend feels way too short.

It's a cold day today, and I need to go to Kraków again. Third time in two days.
