Very happy and proud of this collaboration between @codethink @gnome and @sovtechfund
https://www.codethink.co.uk/articles/2024/GNOME-OS-systemd-sysupdate/
Our goal is to make GNOME OS a daily driver for QA and finalize the migration, but this work will be fundamental to the future of all secure image based / immutable Linux distributions.
@sonny @codethink @gnome @sovtechfund (Now we only need a maintained GNOME Boxes to make it actually work. )
@user8e8f87c @sonny @codethink @gnome @sovtechfund Actually the more important goal is developers running it on hardware, as their daily driver. There are tons of bugs that can only be caught that way.
@sonny @codethink @gnome @sovtechfund with the „add support for delta updates“ mentioned at the end, does that mean a user of systemd-update is going to have the ability to layer their packages on top of the base image and still have the benefit of jumping back several commits, like Fedora Silverblue?
A bit sad that /etc isn’t part of it. Maybe something like OverlayFS on top of a /etc with default configs, could solve config mess
@sonny @codethink @gnome @sovtechfund That's extremely cool! Testing my apps on GNOME OS is a joy already but this will level up the experience even more :)
