omg! ubuntu

Nice – Discord is now verified on Flathub, no longer an unofficial package (thanks to work by @cassidy n' co) omgubuntu.co.uk/2023/10/discor

@omgubuntu @cassidy there's nothing nice about Discord. It's a problematic closed source platform.

@omgubuntu @cassidy “I don’t know Discord’s plans from here” -> If they're running out of ideas, I have one to suggest: being able to follow the system's dark theme preference. There's an option, but it doesn't work (Discord goes into a light theme even if the system is in a dark theme). For a long time I thought it wasn't possible because it's an Electron application, but in fact Element (Matrix) can do it (also packaged in Flatpak).

@omgubuntu Nobody asked me for this rant but holy hell here it is anyways: From what I can gather then, Discord has time to approve this, but no time to maintain their garbage web browser based toy for proper Linux compatibility.

The same children's toy that does its utmost to ensure you stay confined within their proprietary garden instead of communicating with anyone on other platforms.

Yet they ask and remind and nag us many many times a day to pay the poor starving sods for it. They want our money so bad, yet fail to do a single useful thing with it. It's enough to make me nauseous that I need this utter nonsense to stay in touch with my friends.

@omgubuntu @cassidy good :) anything you can get from the store without having to go to websites to hunt for executables seems like a good thing to me. It being proprietary might cause me not to use it, but for those that do it's just that bit more convenient :)

@omgubuntu Why do people use #Discord? It's so obviously designed for #enshittification.
