This glorious sound interrupted so many lectures when I was at university #ubuntu
@omgubuntu wow flashbacks
@omgubuntu Happy memories. I deleted Windows and never looked back.
@omgubuntu it was so warm and welcoming, I remember booting my first live CD (it was 8.04 I think) and feeling at home right from the beginning.
I didn't exactly get how apt-get was working under the hood back then but it felt like MAGIC that I wouldn't need to go to a website and download stuff to install it...that was what sold it to me.
So many memories
@omgubuntu I almost forgot about this!
@omgubuntu for me it was when I was in highschool and it was me who did the interrupting, scrambling to mute the sound, feeling very embarrassed.
@omgubuntu that is some history right there
@omgubuntu ah, that was you ;)
@omgubuntu
Wow, that caused some memories to come up again
@omgubuntu Holy... I haven't heard this sound since the time when I was just experimenting with Ubuntu back in like... 2011-2012. That was a flashback I didn't expect.
@omgubuntu Such Happy Memories
@omgubuntu is this Ubuntu 6.0 ? were those able to request a copy by post ?
@omgubuntu I got a tear here
@omgubuntu glory old days!!
@omgubuntu this just made me realise how long it’s been since i heard any startup sounds, from any kind of system. why did we ever get rid of them?
anyways, /me is enjoying the nostalgia of listening to this
@omgubuntu I completely forgot about that, nice to hear again. Takes me back to when I was first poking my nose over the Linux fence.
@omgubuntu Ubuntu’s glory days for sure!
@cablespaghetti Truly golden
@omgubuntu it was a different time, and a very, very different ubuntu
@omgubuntu I loved the old Ubuntu look and feel.
@omgubuntu I had forgotten that I had forgotten this sound effect.
@MattLuckcuck Every now and then I remember it, and I miss it, and then I promptly forget it again. Cycle repeats.
@omgubuntu I think I for used to it bottling silently, since I usually have my phone on vibrate too. But its nostalgic to hear it again.
@omgubuntu ah, Hardy Heron. I started with Dapper Drake. Stuck with Ubuntu till Natty Narwhal. Wasn't a fan of Unity so I bounced around a bit and settled on Mint. Stuck with that till recently, almost a decade. Garuda today (Arch based). That sound sure brings back memories.
@omgubuntu Thank you for this reminder of exciting times.
@omgubuntu absolutely did this back in college. As an English lit major , no one in my class knew what the hell my PC had just done.
@omgubuntu oh god. That splash screen with the loading bar... So many memories.
Gutsy Gibbon was the first distro i ever installed.
@omgubuntu Wow, the nostalgia... My first taste of Linux was Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, also in university.
I sometimes miss the old Ubuntu branding. Don't get me wrong, I like the slick look of modern Ubuntu with Yaru. But the original theming really helped one get the feeling that they were using something meant first and foremost for human beings, and warmly welcoming them into the FOSS community.
