brand new APU4B4 just arrived! Let's see if i can get running on it all by myself.

works on PC Engines' APU4: hofmeyr.de/OpenBSD%20on%20APU4 (and I worked it out myself, without having to pester @stsp about it, w00t!

@neeels

I run my router with its older brother (APU). It is not on PC Engine's website ? How did you heard about it ?

I also wrote a famous article about it.

@22Decembre the link to NRG systems is under the "APU.4B4" name on my website text there (here again: apu-board.de/produkte/apu4b4.h ) -- I also wondered why I can't find it nor its manual on pcengines.ch, maybe it's too bleeding edge. NRG got the first boards only a week ago.

@neeels I could see the link on your blog post.

Problem is I don't understand german. I am holding a look at what I can use as router in case mine crash.

@22Decembre so IIUC the APU4 is basically an APU3 with four ethernet ports, and the APU3 in turn is just an APU2 that allows a second GSM/UMTS/LTE-Module. The fourth ethernet port is what caught my interest. Otherwise an APU2 should serve you identically well.

@neeels why do you need four eth ports ?

What about the rest ? CPU and ram ? I don't know the requirements for a good router actually.

neeels @neeels

@22Decembre 1: uplink, 2: into VPN tunnel, 3: thru to uplink but with local DHCP because the DSL modem's DHCP sucks badly, and with the fourth port I'm flexible, either as bridge to save yet another network switch that would have to sit next to the APU for just one more device, or connect with our uplink, or...; CPU and RAM: at we ran the entire GSM/UMTS core net on an APU2, not that that's a good thing, but unless you aim for Gbit throughput I guess you should be fine with it ;)

@neeels I was supposed to get fibernet and then affraid my router would not hold the broadband. But no. Your description makes me think I am ok (my router is just for my home, nothing more).
