So....while we spend endless money on war, genocide, cops, and jails, our physical infrastructure continues to rot and collapse.

Baltimore just lost a major artery in its transportation network, with the additional tragedy of lives lost, when the Francis Scott Key bridge collapsed completely after a ship hit one of its pylon supports.

The replacement needs to be cable-stayed, higher clearanced, and with additional protections from collisions.

@AnthonyJK I'm pretty sure there's nothing you can do that will stop a ship that size from destroying infrastructure it collides with.

Maybe not for a ship as colossal as the one that hit the HBK, but it wouldn't hurt for more conventional carriers.

@AnthonyJK I would bet they do account for these things already in the engineering of most structures. In fact even the twin towers had been designed around the possibility of being hit by airplanes; just not fully fuel-loaded ones.
