Calligra 4.0 is out! Aside from the complete port to Qt6/KF6, this release contains a new sidebar design, updated dialogs, better Wayland compatibility and more.

@kde Calligra used to be the only office suite I kinda liked. I hope the future is bright for it and it picks up again!

Perhaps interesting fact: Calligra used to be included with Nokia devices and had the best MS Office support at the time.

Is KDE/Calligra still active in OASIS regarding ODF?

@hook @kde KDE is an inactive/passive member of OASIS. Which pretty much means we are not involved anymore but could get involved again if we had the bandwidth for it.

@carlschwan @kde, that is at least something.

I'm far from a document format expert, but I think it is a good information for those who would be interested in participating and helping with Calligra and/or ODF :blobhug:

@carlschwan I really want to thank you for the huge progress you bring to the most useful KDE projects.

Side note: the mastodon link on your blog post and associated comments seem to be actually relative to you post of July for KirigamiAddons 1.4…

@vpinon This should be fixed now, thanks for letting me know.

@kde so happy to see tuosbhappening, and thank you for pushing on it! :)

@kde amazing ! And thank you now the global menu support works on arch

@kde

Does Calligra 4.0 (Words/Sheets/Stage) support ODF 1.3? I didn't see anywhere mentioning it.

@kde

Okay. Looks like nothing changed about this part. Still only 1.2 extended conformant, and almost all the ODP files generated by Calligra couldn't pass the ODF Validator (odfvalidator.org).

@kde Nice improvements !!!

I'm just confuse how I can use the tar.xz.sig.mirrorlist file 🤔🤔

@kde Always had a bit of a soft spot for Calligra, since it had a more experimental UI than most office suites. Hopefully, this is only the beginning of Calligra's return!

Personally hoping that Calligra continues differentiating itself from most other office suites, perhaps by trending towards being the open-source equivalent to ClarisWorks/MS Works/iWork maybe. Most other office suites in the OSS ecosystem follow the MS Office style, by comparison. Going towards a *Works style means not necessarily chasing feature parity and focusing on the UX for the most common tasks; it's also more in line with the Kirigami app style, IMO.

@kde Awesome to see that Calligra is still alive and kicking even after Krita split off. Is there a Zotero reference manager integration on the time line? I think this is really the major feature I would miss if I switched from Libre Office.
