@fu Do you have the original so others can mark it up as well?

@feditips It's awesome! There's even so many more that it's impossible to list them all!

Lemmy (join-lemmy.org/), an alternative to Reddit.

Pleroma (pleroma.social/), a lightweight microblogging network (like Mastodon, but with some differences).

Plume (joinplu.me/), a federated blogging system.

Misskey (misskey.page/), an extra-fully featured microblogging server.

And so many others!

See fediverse.party/ for even more examples.

@be There's also Rustodon, which is incomplete.

Email is now working, and we have basic rules written up at benign.town/about/more

Registrations are now open.

@devinprater What's the most accessible Web interface for Mastodon that you know of at the moment? I'd like to host a copy for the instance I'm setting up.

👋 Test message from a new instance.

Once email's sorted out I'll open up signups. In the meantime, I'll write up some of the policies and maybe theme the instance.

Hello! This instance is being tested, but it'll be open to the public soon. 😃

Since I was there, I peeked at my timeline (after forcing back into reverse chrono order). Evan Prodromou posted this blog post from Kathy Sierra from 2007 regarding Twitter. She has some observations that I think can also apply here. Even though Mastodon doesn't have the same motivations as Twitter, it shares many of its design decisions.

I am very bad at... I guess this counts as marketing?

Durham, NC:

This Sunday, once again, Black & Indigenous folk can pick up free plants, courtesy of the Groundhog Autonomous Zone, at Pineywood Park, between 10:30 and 11:30.

Other folk can inquiry about potentially bartering for plants, but every plant we trade is a plant we're not gifting.

If you want to learn more about the GAZ, we put together a public infosheet available at cryptpad.fr/code/#/2/code/view

Notably, we're considering putting together a local reading group for anarchist texts (you can find a form to nominate what we read first through the link above)

We also have a Discord we're turning into an online school for learning about (and practicing) anarchy - mutuals can DM me for an invite to that one, or you can get an invite by becoming a monthly donor to my Ko-Fi,

Alright, that's all the publicity stuff, I think? Here's the plant list:

Stonecrop sedum, bee balm, mountainmint, spearmint, mugwort.

We have a limited number of mullein & chamomile for Black and Indigenous folk who provide herbal care to our community.

DM to arrange pickup!

(Not local but want to help? Share this post! Whenever one of these gets boosted by a few accounts, I end up meeting a new person in the area who wants some plants!)

@zkat 👋 I use Rust for most of the programs I make.

@devinprater Yeah, that's annoying. I generally use the '#' for headings because of that.

What markup language do you prefer most?

@dragfyre It's been going very well! I don't have much to share at the moment, but I'll make a blog post about it when the class is over (just a few weeks from now). I'll make sure to ping you when I write it.

Overall, the students have learned a lot, and have picked up on it quite well! They've also been enjoying themselves for the most part, which is one of the most important things I've been trying to accomplish with the class.

Who wants to do another Mastodon instance with me?

I want to make something quiet and comfy that has a somewhat-defined community (inspired by merveilles.town) but also with open registrations. Moderation will be difficult.

I have the skills and would like to help out with the increasing load on the network.

The exact software is also not yet set in stone.

All thoughts welcome.

I'm not very excited about new people coming to Mastodon, as people don't even care about anything it represents, they're just here for the “hate Elon” hype. They will leave soon, you'll see.

However, I'm glad for the few ones who will stay until the end.

@assbach I personally reply and then boost both posts (when applicable).

@ramblingffrit@banana.dog I once was on an instance with a 65 thousand character limit. You could write novels on it (and I did).
