After flying to New Zealand for a family holiday and experiencing the best that airlines can offer, including
a) flights cancelled before departure, forcing a re-route
b) self-service for international baggage check
c) lost luggage
d) flight delays
e) a 20 minute walk between domestic and international terminals with luggage because it was faster than the intermittent shuttle bus
f) broken IT systems at domestic self-service baggage check
Is it fair to say that airlines have been ‘enshittified’ @pluralistic ?
Airline CEOs and shareholders have been making bank for years.
The general public have been getting screwed.
Can enshittification apply to degradation of any technological service? Not just on-line ones?
@pluralistic A classic example from Australia. The national airline’s CEO received millions after illegally sacking workers and ripping off passengers using ‘ghost flights’.

@fluids_guru @pluralistic talking about airlines, just yesterday I learned of the next enshitif8cation step for them: they are now making carry-on luggage a luxury item
@gwidion @fluids_guru @pluralistic last time I booked a flight there were 4 categories of economy ticket, none of them seemed to be what I wanted
@gwidion @fluids_guru @pluralistic Not condoning but caused by all these asshats who "carry on" huge stuffed bags which take 15 minutes for them to cajole into the overheads, etc. It's so annoying....I'm actually all for just a personal item...would make travel and boarding etc so much more pleasant
@BlueWaver22 @fluids_guru @pluralistic carry on would not be a problem if dispatched luggage were free again.
@gwidion @fluids_guru @pluralistic Hey, they're not charging extra fees for pressurized cabin (basic economy is "bring your own oxygen mask").
I half expect Ryanair to try that at some point.
