Forgive me for being uneducated, but why is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6 so profound, and the latter so much more confusing?
Was there an IPv5 in between that was just "let's double the address space, and if presented with an IPv4 address we just front-pad it with zeroes to convert"?
127.0.0.1 -> 0.0.0.0.127.0.0.1
... and if there was, why didn't we just stick with that?

A little plan
Be curious. Go outside. Get to bed on time. Hydrate. Breathe from the diaphragm. Eat happy. Get a routine baggy enough to live in. Be kind. Accept that not everyone will like you. Appreciate those who do. Don't be defined. Allow fuck-ups. Want what you already have. Learn to see not things that get in the way of life. And to say yes to the things that help you live. -Matt Haig
"A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation."
Hi #Mastodon community,
does anyone know whether there is a way to change the default visibility of #boosts?
I've always found it strange that they seem to default to public but even browsing the whole issue list on the repo, I could not find anything related to that.
I'd really think that making boosts followers only would be more reasonable so if there is a way to do that, I'd be grateful for any tip (or open issue).
For more than a year, every big tech site would have banned or suppressed content saying the exact same things Anthony Fauci said privately #FauciEmails
Does being the leader of a country mean just showing up on TV regularly to proclaim grief and saying that things will get better?
The leader draws a handsome salary, right?
A salary that comes out of the tax paid for by the people.
If TV appearances is the only thing matter, the most suited candidate is an actor.
But then again, being a politician and being an actor has so much in common.
Yet it would've been nice if acting was just a side business.
"Bloomberg today released a report on how companies like #Apple, #Microsoft, #Amazon and #Google are working together to put a stop to laws that would make it necessary for companies to provide device schematics, genuine repair parts and repair manuals to independent repair technicians."
This week is GDPR's 3rd anniversary! 🎂
It has reshaped the web and increased awareness of the issues with surveillance capitalism. Many privacy-first tools like Plausible wouldn't have existed without it 🙌
It continues to make a big difference too. We hear daily from large companies who are closely watching opt-in rates on those consent banners. And they are increasingly looking for and switching to privacy-focused tools due to high opt-out rates! #haveyoursay
Regarding the freenode controversy, I had thought the fault was mostly on one side.
But after seeing this post by prawnsalad, I'm not too sure...
May be the 'echo chambers' played a role?
