To be clear, these types of "humanitarian" deals that effectively sell personal information of vulnerable populations? They are not OK.

Fortunately the tide is turning with more and more people embracing responsible data use campaigns, free software initiatives, and sustainable development alliances. Deals like these, when they slip through, are now debated vigorously. That's a good change.

It is slow going but change is in the air.
