What a beautiful announcement video! Makes my occasional creations look even more amateurish. But yeah, great tool!

Systemd-homed will change the way we manage users and their home directories on #Linux. "Outside of including a much-improved security, systemd-homed will finally enable a truly portable home directory."

Interesting stuff, I'm assessing how this will impact our setup.

@grainloom @alcinnz Yes, GPLv2 does allow tivoization and hence many IoT and Android devices are within license compliance even if they are locked down with encrypted bootloaders.

When GPLv3 was released there was perhaps a narrow window of opportunity for the Linux kernel to upgrade. But I think politics intervened. Linus's salary was coming from corporations who were implacably opposed to anti-tivoization. So it didn't happen. When Linus says "I don't care about xyz..." it's because if he did care about it then he would soon find himself defunded.

In a parallel timeline if there had been some non-corporate way to fund Linux development then we might be in a much better position now. But this is a general problem of capitalism.

You can help in a lot of different ways:
* Share my posts
* Financial donations
* Join one of my new initiatives
* Help me with a new Free Software laptop
* And more...

I'm also sharing my frustration. I'm committed to this path. I will do another waterfast to help me clean up.

I'm manifesting a new laptop. My laptop was stolen a few months ago by someone who befriended me to create an opportunity to steal it. I went through a tough period afterwards. I'm currently without a laptop. I can do so much more with a laptop again.

Please boost this post.

tech question, totally boostable

hey what's the cheapest generic cloud provider that's not a horrible company like MS or Amazon? Specifically we're going to need something EC2-like (or at least able to host containers and do some degree of autoscaling) and something S3-like. Sorry that I don't know the generic terms for these my work's an AWS shop.

Good talk on software complexity:

It was definitely nice to listen to this while thinking about my objections to modern browsers.
