WHAT THE FUCK

I was talking to a bot and had no clue until they repeated it. It wasn't like someone trying to repeat something to convince me - it was the exact same audio clip. That was my only clue.

Really unnerving. Also pissed becuase they have call bots spreading propaganda that front as humans. It held a conversation convincingly FFS, and recognized what I said

@brainblasted i get those calls so often. they sound so real and it’s mad creepy.

i normally call back and got an actual human once, but they hung up when i asked them to stop calling. i answer and block their numbers after confirmation it’s them again.

@gingerrroot I had gotten bot calls before but never one so convincing. I think I'll call back.

@brainblasted - It might be a person clicking on audio clips, so a cyborg instead of a robot (or a borg instead of a bot), but yeah. Still shitty.

@tinker That is something to consider. Though why not use real humans instead of a human acting through clips?

@brainblasted - Because the low paid operators are from India and have a thick accent or speak minimal English. The recorded audio is tailored to your regional accent or demographic (just like the spoofed number has your local area code).

It all allows for massive scaling at targetted demographics with minimal cost.

I've had a couple of those. One rather persistent one for some police officers union or some such.

Car warranty scams have been using the same thing. "hey this is Bob calling about your warranty. I've got a bit of a bad line, can you hear me?" if you don't respond it asks again, otherwise it starts talking about the warranty.
