@CleoMenezesJr Not like people would have searched outside of Discord (or even inside the Discord history anyway).
@mateusrodcosta To be honest, who in their right mind, when they want to know about something, uses Discord as a search engine? I mean, first you have to guess that the information you are looking for will be in X Discord server.
@CleoMenezesJr Leave out "as a forum". It's cleaner.
@BoredomFestival I didn't want to be so controversial, but since you said it, I can only agree.
@CleoMenezesJr I see it the same as saying “please ask your questions on IRC.”
@CleoMenezesJr I've always hated trying to search for old answers to the question I'm having but I just realized why it's especially bad: extraneous conversation, but moreso: no ability to search for _topics_ instead of posts, in relative terms. It's such a quagmire to filter through. SOMETIMES I find an answer, but most of the time, I do not.
@CleoMenezesJr I have also seen computer games where the bug reports are apparently done via Discord.
It’s not the method I’d like to use to report a bug, but especially not one I’d want to read for bug reports. I hope they have even a Jira where they enter the tickets.
@pare I was using a launcher for Android and saw that the bug report was happening through Discord too. This discouraged me so much that I stopped using it.
@CleoMenezesJr
Discord is the new WhatsApp...
@IzzyOnDroid
@kranzkrone @IzzyOnDroid Good idea, my bug report from now on, will be a group on WhatsApp. ️
@CleoMenezesJr @codinghorror this is also my problem with Slack (Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge)
— you have to know what you're looking for before you can find it. Totally backwards.
@j4ck @CleoMenezesJr @codinghorror Moreover, Slack seems to have a subscription model around months ago chat history! Horrendous, if anyone's got a shtick for archiving everything in this thing.
@CleoMenezesJr For the love of god, stop using Microsoft GitHub for any open Source Project. Better use free and open source platforms like #Codeberg #Forgejo
@TheTomas @CleoMenezesJr Selfhosted gitea?
@daarin @TheTomas @CleoMenezesJr or selfhosted gog, gitea, forgejo, gitlab, heck gitweb whatever but not an AI and behavior-data driven, Microsoft Account locked in, propriatary GitHub. People often say, there would be no alternatives. I’ve just mentioned five.
Apparently the cool people hate Github now.
@rastilin Hate github but embrace discord doesn't seems a game chance. Hahaa
I was shocked too. But apparently being owned by Microsoft means github is automatically evil.
@rastilin @CleoMenezesJr I haven't gotten around to hating GitHub yet but the days of it being better than its direct competitors seem to be well and truly over.
@CleoMenezesJr I don't see how this in any way Discord fault. But maybe I'm missing something? Is there like a marketing campaign or incentive or something?
Every project these days:
“ask all questions on discord”
Also…
“Why does everyone keep asking the same questions on discord?”
@amd @CleoMenezesJr Then they make "efficiency" bots to answer frequently asked questions and memorize these weird bot commands.
Like... it could have been an automatically indexable F.A.Q. webpage where anyone could use their browser feature or your custom nifty search bar to find stuff and proper anchors for reference linking, no???
@CleoMenezesJr I bet they wonder why they're having to answer the same questions over and over in their chat.
Ironically, they'll then create an FAQ and direct people in Discord to that.
@CleoMenezesJr
...
So i *shouldnt* be linking to discord with my inline comments?
@CleoMenezesJr corporations have no right to your culture. Do not cede your power unto them.
#Vaadin used Gitter and left it to go to Discord. Now, three years later, they are going to leave Discord.

Setting up a Discourse forum early and relentlessly encouraging our users to actually use it has been one of the most worthwhile things we’ve done to build a vibrant community at @zerotier over the past few years.
